Last spring, my friend — Margot Mckelvie @margotmckelviephotography with Squeaky Dog Studios, a talented Seattle-based dog photographer was doing her California dog photo session tour. I was lucky enough she stopped in Danville to shoot out of my garage. With some backdrops, lighting gear, props, peanut butter flavored bubbles and ALOT of treats, it quickly transformed into a full-blown dog photography studio.
Throughout the day, one furry client after another trotted through the door. Each dog had their own personality — some strutted in like seasoned models, others needed a little extra encouragement (and maybe a squeaky toy or two). Margot had the patience of a saint, capturing every tail wag, head tilt and goofy grin.
When it came time for my own dog’s session, I finally got to experience the magic from the other side of the lens. Watching my pup pose, perk up her ears and respond to the camera was hilarious and heartwarming. The resulting photos captured so much personality — it reminded me why great pet photography feels like storytelling, not just snapshots.
By the time the project wrapped up, my garage held memories of joyful moments and wagging tails. There’s something special about seeing your space transformed for creativity and connection, especially when it involves our four-legged friends.
